The approach to these posters is guided by the client’s request; the final decisions—whether artistic or structural—are therefore based on the client’s preferences. This poster is part of a pair of designs inspired by the Sonic universe, with the choice of characters initially based on Shadow, then Metal Sonic. The client’s request was to convey a modern scientific “Xerox”-style aesthetic for the Shadow poster (hence the name Project Shadow) and to create a modern, metallic poster that highlights Metal Sonic’s distinctive visual characteristics.

(The poster being custom-made with a client, it features aesthetic characteristics specific to the client’s tastes and requests. My input and experience here serve as support, resulting in a more general description and analysis.)
The modern pseudo-scientific approach emphasizes the character’s explanatory and descriptive text elements. An ASCII effect reinforces this visual language, combined with a threshold effect that adds texture while improving readability across the dense information.
Visual elements positioned on both sides of the central character illustrate Shadow’s personality and provide additional visual support, placing him at the heart of the composition. Textual elements, including the logo and descriptive paragraphs, provide context and information, while Japanese typography recalls the Japanese origins of the Sonic universe.
A limited color palette ensures high visibility through a strong contrast ratio. The colors are directly inspired by the character: black and red create a powerful visual opposition, while white structures the composition and highlights key information.
The first black-and-white alternative showcases the poster with balanced contrast and light, resulting in a simple and complete reading experience. The reverse × heatmap version reinforces the poster’s scientific, almost nuclear, identity, offering a bold alternative with a different reading hierarchy.
The sans-serif typefaces were selected for their readability. The title uses a bold, wide font, while the lower text employs a condensed variation to maintain visual consistency. A subtle graphic reference to the character is incorporated into the O and A letterforms.
